Lucas Woodland
Owner, Coach

Growing up on a farm in Iowa, I have always been active.  I started wrestling at a young age and played football and wrestled through high school.  I wasn’t a great athlete, but I loved the competition and teamwork.

In college, I began weightlifting.  I continued lifting weights and added running during my time in the military. After the military, I got lazy.  To get back into shape, I started P90X.  Once I got tired of the P90X routine, my wife talked me into running marathons.  I was focused on distance running until I found CrossFit.

My fitness journey has been a winding road, but nothing compares to CrossFit.  I was hooked on CrossFit after my first free introductory class and I knew that it was something I wanted to share with everyone.

Why I coach
The pride, confidence and pure joy I see in people when they get their first double under, master the kipping pull-up, hit a personal record (PR), or lose 80 pounds are the reasons why I love being a coach.

Athletics have been a part of my life since I was young.  I started swimming competitively at the age of seven and continued throughout high school.  Fitness became a bigger part of my adult life once I decided to run a marathon, as one of my bucket list items.  Since 2009, I have run seven marathons, including the Boston Marathon (twice!) and multiple half marathons.

CrossFit came into my life when my husband talked me into a free class.  I’ve been hooked since. CrossFit has personally helped me correct chronic running injuries that physical therapy couldn’t.  The overall strength, fitness and functionality that CrossFit brings to individuals cannot be achieved through any other program!

Why I coach
As a Family Nurse Practitioner and a CrossFit trainer, I enjoy being able to help others improve their health and fitness.

Athletics and competition have been in my blood for as long as I can remember.  I recall traveling to basketball tournaments, football games, track, and cross country meets.  I was always on the move, no matter what I was doing.

In college, I ran cross country and track until I joined the Army. Once in the Army, I was your traditional workout type of guy. I focused on bicep curls and bench press.  That was until I had my first encounter with CrossFit while I was deployed in Afghanistan.  CrossFit was truly a new and very different experience for me.  I enjoyed the competition aspect and the way it attacked my weaknesses.

After I returned home, I joined a CrossFit gym.  Eventually, I talked my wife, Rachel, into joining with me.  This is where we met Lucas and Tara.  We became friends through our shared enjoyment and love of CrossFit.   When Lucas made the decision to start CrossFit St. Croix, I knew that I wanted to be a part of helping him accomplish his goal and coach alongside him.

Why I coach
For me, Crossfit has instilled an increasing level of confidence. I want to help you increase your confidence and carry it over into all aspects of your life.  I want to help you grow and become a better athlete, be stronger then you were yesterday – and have fun while doing it!

Athletics have been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started playing football in elementary school and as I got older I developed a love for basketball as well and continued with both through high school. During my senior year of high school I also began doing P90X and Insanity workouts until I was introduced to Crossfit.  I have been committed to Crossfit since the first time I tried it. Nothing compares to CrossFit!

Why I coach
Crossfit is a part of my life and I want to share it others. I enjoy helping others achieve their personal goals and developing strength in their lives!

Tara Langer
Nutrition Coach

As a Registered Dietitian, I carry with me a professional commitment and personal passion to heal the mind, body, and soul with real nutrition. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Nutrition from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, and spent my dietetic graduate internship at Iowa State University. For the past two years I’ve worked as a corporate health program director and coach, working to develop effective nutrition coaching services with large companies in the twin cities area.

Why I coach
My work proficiencies are only a supplement to the actual health journey I endured that fueled my desire to help others. As a young adult, I struggled with body image issues that began at an emotional level but quickly spiraled out of control. I developed a severe form of Irritable Bowel Syndrome for 3 long years that went untreatable. This is where my dietetic journey truly began; I decided to end my war against food and heal my body from years of damage using whole foods and a change of mindset about how I view health. The obstacles I endured along the way allowed me to find my true purpose in life, and that is to truly connect with people using nutrition as my medicine.
